Authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, on Thursday asked students of the institution to pay N20, 000 each as reparation fee following students’ rampage of Saturday, 7th October, 2017.
During the rampage, the students reportedly destroyed some properties of the institution including ICT centre where about 40 laptop computers were allegedly carted away and the school’s poultry where eggs and 600 chickens were stolen.
The rampaging students also reportedly vandalised the school’s fishery and bakery where products of the facilities were also carted away.
The decision to levy the students was taken at the emergency meeting of the academic board of the school, held on Tuesday, 7th November, 2017 at the conference hall where it was also resolved that all students (except SIWES) should resume on Monday, 20th November, 2017.
A statement by the school’s registrar, Mrs S. O. Adediran, directed that students, including those with outstanding carry-over courses are to pay a reparation fee of twenty thousand naira (N20,000.00) only.
The statement advised students to pay into the payment created for the purpose warning that payment of school fee and reparation fee are conditions for resumption .
"In addition to the payment, each student is expected to bring along a sworn affidavit to be of good behavour throughout the period of studentship;a letter of Indemnity from parents/sponsors/guardians.
Meanwhile, the school said examination for all Students (except SIWES) commences on Monday, 27th November, 2017.
