A Sokoto State High Court has sentenced one Bello Ubandawaki to death by hanging for the killing of Kebbi State Government House Director of Finance, Alhaji Yahaya Saidu.
It would be recalled that in September last year, Alhaji Yahaya was reported to have been killed and buried by people suspected to be his business associates at Kwanawa, Dange Shuni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Police in the state commenced investigation after receiving complaint from the late director’s wife that her husband had not been seen for three days.
During investigation, the police went to Bello Ubandawaki’s house where they discovered a newly dug hole cemented in his bedroom. The hole was opened and the corpse of Alhaji Yahya Saidu was found there, Daily Trust gathered.
Bello who was a principal suspect was arrested with four others and subsequently charged to court.
He was charged with culpable homicide, an offence punishable with death.
Delivering judgement in the case, Justice Danlami Sambo said Bello should be hanged until certified dead.
Two accused persons in the case; Misbau Musa and Yunusa Ibrahim were discharged and acquitted while two others are still at large.
