A witness said the accident happened at about 5:15 a.m. when a Toyota commuter bus with registration number XV 528 FKJ carrying 18 passengers lost control while speeding and crashed into a ditch.
He said the bus driver, who was conveying passengers from Lagos travelling to Kano, overtook another vehicle dangerously, which made him veer off the road.
“It was as a result of over speeding after he overtook a trailer that the bus somersaulted falling into the ditch. The driver and one other passenger died on the spot,” he said.
He said men of Abaji unit command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were at the scene to evacuate the two corpses and injured victims to hospital.
When contacted, Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, Moses Audu, confirmed the accident, saying two corpses were deposited at the morgue of Kwali General Hospital.
He said the six injured passengers who sustained fractures were taken to Abaji General Hospital, adding that the vehicle was taken to Kwali police station.
In another incident, three persons were injured in a motor accident which occurred on Wednesday evening near Gada-Biyu village, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
A witness said the accident, which happened around 4:37 p.m. involved a Toyota Camry vehicle with registration number XC 729 LKJ. The witness said the vehicle was on top speed and run into a barricade at a diversion making the car to somersault and crash into a ditch.
He said the rescue team officials of the FRSC evacuated the victims to hospital.
Abaji FRSC unit commander also confirmed the incident, which he attributed to over-speeding, saying those injured were taken to Abaji General Hospital.
