Relations of security operatives flay FG’s silence on Alkayo killings

A Nasarawa State government white paper on the report of the panel which investigated the killing Monday indicted the federal government, saying the Ombatse leader, Baba Alkayo and other principal officers of the group should be arrested and prosecuted while ordering investigation of perceived sponsors including Senator Solomon Ewuga.    
Parents, widows and other relatives of the slain operatives yesterday took turns to hurl invectives at the federal government.  Damian Madaki, an older brother of a slain SSS operative told Daily Trust  that the federal government’s long silence and failure to issue clear directives on the issue as well as the reactions of the high commands of the two security agencies were enough to convince anyone that the dead agents would not get justice.
 “If anyone tells our mother that she lost a son in that incident she would say no, her son is still alive, held somewhere. Remember the Inspector General of Police declared that some operatives were still alive, and were being held in Alakyo. Remember he said the police were negotiating with members of Ombatse for the release of the captives. Now, the same IG is saying nothing, almost a year after the incident. The SSS is also acting as though they did not lose men in that incident”  Madaki said.
Nandul Durfa, who led a protest by parents of the dead operatives on July 29, 2013 when Vice President Namadi Sambo paid a one-day visit to Lafia, expressed disappointment with the government’s handling of the killings and recalled that the parents led a protest before the vice president to call for government’s concern, but without success.
A widow who pleaded anonymity described the federal government’s posture as shameful, saying:   “I am afraid no security operative will agree to go on any operation just like that again. Their spirits must have been dampened because of the way authorities have treated their fallen colleagues.”
