Announcing this at resumption of plenary yesterday, Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal described the killing as “one killing too many.”
Tambuwal said the government must do everything within its reach to end the spate of killings in the North-East, especially the murder of school children.
“On February 25, 2014, the very day the House adjourned plenary, Nigeria suffered a horrendous terrorist attack that struck a fatal blow at the heart and soul of the Nigerian nation and desecrated values that decent peoples of all nations hold dear,” the speaker said.
“It is to remember these innocent children and other victims of violence in this country that the House has declared today ‘A day of mourning’ to express our collective outrage on these killings that have gone on for far too long,” he said.
He said the killers of the students deserve no sleep. He also lamented the continuous killings of innocent Nigerians in places such as Benue and Plateau States as well as other parts of Nigeria.
While calling on all arms of government to take decisive actions, Tambuwal said: “I humbly appeal to the Nigerian people to join in this struggle for the soul of our nation and embrace as a sacred duty the mission of restoring peace and stability in Nigeria.”
The house adjourned to Tuesday next week to give various committees more time to conclude budget defence with government agencies on the 2014 budget.
