Lagerback, Eagles parley in danger

Everton, Olympic Marseille, Hapoel Petah Tikvah and Alania are some of the clubs that have written formally to the Nigeria federation, holding back permission for their players to attend the session in England.

KickOffNigeria.com understands that other clubs have called while a few players have also spoken to the NFF begging off after failing to get the permission of their clubs.

Several players told KickOffNigeria.com that they have been unable to convince their clubs to release them for the two-day session as clubs battle it out in the final stretch of the European football season.

Lagerback had planned to meet up in London for two days with the squad, but a top official of the NFF told KickOffNigeria.com that that arrangement no longer looks workable.

“We may have to cancel the meeting in the interest of the players’ careers and their relationship with their clubs,” a federation official said. “We are naturally very disappointed, but we do not want to cause any friction between them.”

NFF executive committee member Taiwo Ogunjobi, however, said the meeting would go ahead, even if some players cannot make it.

“This is just a meeting for the Technical Adviser to meet and be introduced to the players. So even if some of them can’t make it, it won’t be a problem.”
