MEND writes Yar’adua on amnesty

MEND spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, intimated our correspondent through an e-mail that the movement is hoping that President Yar’adua will act decisively this time around.

MEND also craved the indulgence of the President to apologise to innocent civilians, more than 20,000 of them, displaced by the current face-off between the JTF and the militants.

“The civilized world expect  your apology to the hundreds of displaced and relatives of dead civilians caused by the indiscriminate aerial bombing targeted at innocent impoverished communities from a cowardly armed forces meant to instil fear”.

In a similar development, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Campaign Centre (JMCC), Colonel Rabe Abubakar, has urged the people masquerading under MEND to dedicate their time to doing positive things that will better the lot of people in the region, rather than engaging in name smearing and propaganda that will lead nowhere.

He absolved the JTF operatives of involvement in illegal oil bunkering. According to him, the JTF has zero tolerance for such compromising attitude as could be substantiated by its arrest of ships and barges and the destruction of illegal refineries.”
