Tour operators tasked on culture based products, unity

Nigerian Tour Operators have been tasked to develop tour products that will be deeply rooted in Nigerian cultures to deepen the tourism industry in Nigeria.

Otumba Segun Runsewe, Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, made the call yesterday at the inauguration of the FCT Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), on in Abuja.

Otumba Runsewe also called on tour operators to cooperate with one another to develop a violable tourism sector in Nigeria adding that tourism business can grow fast if the operators cooperate and help each other to succeed.  According to him “Proper packaging of tours is needed in Nigeria to be able to explore its potentials because what makes tourism anywhere in the World is culture and packaging.

Runsewe said culture was a product that could be used to promote tourism, adding that NATOP members must create a packaged tour that would draw the attention of the world.

“Nigeria tourism is just waking up and anytime you wake up can be your morning,” he said.

According to him, the major problem of tourism in Nigeria is awareness because many people are not aware and the way forward is what NATOP is doing by bringing more of stakeholders together to showcase their products.

“In the next two to three years, our tourism profile in Nigeria will be huge to the amazement of the whole world,” he said.

Mr Nkereuwem Onung, President, NATOP, said that for tourism to be developed in Nigeria, structures needed to be developed.
