In a New Year message to Nigerians yesterday by its national director of publicity, Iheanacho Oguejiofor, the party appealed to all political parties in the country to make their campaigns explicit and issue-based.
It implored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that all the votes to be cast during the elections count, adding that the commission should create a level playing field for all political parties in the election in line with the Electoral Act.
“APGA implores every Nigerian to salvage and protect the country’s democracy, constitutional and territorial integrity. We should nurture and transform her democracy, build and grow her economy, maintain and preserve the rule of law for the benefit of all Nigerians.
“INEC should ensure our votes count so that the winners that will emerge after the 2015 general elections will be absolute reflection of all the votes cast by the electorate in order that the people elected will be true representatives of the people who will serve the interest of Nigerians, rather than that of a few privileged individuals,” APGA said.
The party also warned against “god-fatherism” in the nation’s politics, saying political parties should make their debates factual and their criticisms constructive as part of efforts to deepen democracy in the country.
It appealed to all politicians to guard against provocative utterances, unlawful acts and unpatriotic tendencies capable of jeopardising the country’s democracy and security of lives and property.
