Top officials of the Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited have revealed that their company does not supply urea fertiliser to some states in the north-east because of the security challenges bedeviling the region.
Speaking to Daily Trust, the company’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Dr S K Srivastava, noted that they have been restricted from supplying some north eastern states like Borno, Adamawa, Yobe and Gombe because of security challenges.
He explained that insurgents use the urea fertiliser as a raw material for making explosive devices, adding that the office of the National Security Advisor (NSA) directs them on the states to supply urea to.
“We supply urea based on the instructions given by the NSA, so based on their direction we are supplying urea,
“They track our movement from the factory in Port Harcourt to the final destination. NSA tracks every truck through their own channels, through their own security network,” he said.
