Parents and clerics yesterday expressed displeasure over the handling of the 31st Quranic recitation competition organized by the Jigawa state government.
The over 200 participants of both sexes and their teachers from across the 27 local government areas of the state wore gloomy faces at the closing ceremony of the competition over how it was organized.
Speaking on the occasion, an Islamic scholar, Shiekh Abdul Wahab Gadankaya called on the state government to reconsider the value of gifts for the competitors.
Speaking similarly, one of the parents of the participants said, “In the past, scholarship awards and cash gifts were given to winners but to the disappointment of all this year, only bicycles which cost less than N20, 000 were presented to the winners.”
In a response, Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, promised an improvement in future.
