Parts of the sprawling office complex of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State have been submerged by the less than one hour heavy down pour yesterday afternoon. The sections heavily affected were the back office where abandoned government vehicles are parked.
Also the flood covered vehicles belonging to key government officials in front of the reception while other cars had to be pushed out of the thigh-level flood to enable mechanics put them back to use.
The power house as well as generators were also completely flooded, as workers were seen evacuating their property from adjoining offices as the rain intensified. Director General of the state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said the government had earmarked the sum of N8 billion to salvage some flood threatened neighbourhoods, including important government buildings.
Senior media assistant to the governor, Mr. Christian Ita, said Ayade was aware of the threat, and that it would soon be fixed.
