Security agents in Plateau State yesterday said parents and certain communities, by their actions or inaction, are encouraging drug dealings, a menace fast becoming the major cause of criminal activities in the State.
Operation Safe Haven, the Nigeria Police Force and sister agencies independently made the assertion during a community stakeholders dialogue meeting on mob action and security relationship for Nasarawa Jos, Jarawa and Anguwan Rukuba communities in Plateau State.
The event which was organised by Search for Common Ground in collaboration with the office of the Secretary to the Plateau State Government and the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme, was aimed at encouraging communities to partner with law enforcement agencies, especially with regards to information sharing.
Operation Safe Haven sector 2 Commander, represented by Major Isa Galadima, urged the communities to provide information on drug dealers, adding, “Even when we arrest such culprits, parents and communities come to beg that we should release them.”
