Technical Adviser of El-Kanmei Warriors Coach Ladan Bosso has heaped praises on the referees from Benue who officiated the week 10 match between his team and Rivers United on Wednesday in Port-Harcourt.
The trio of Damian Akure, Robert Aundugh and Mimisen Iyorhe were in charge of the NPFL match which the home team won 1-0 courtesy of the lone strike from Nonso Okonkwo.
Speaking to SHOT! after the match, the former Flying Eagles gaffer said the referees provided a level playing field for the two teams and should be commended.
The coach said he was particularly impressed with the performance of the centre referee, Damian Akure who has just been promoted to the Premier League from the lower division.
The former Abia Warriors coach therefore said he was let down by his boys who failed to make good use of the fairness exhibited by the referees.
According to him, instead of being robbed by the referee as it is usually the case, it was his team that ‘robbed’ the referees.
“It was a wonderful performance from the Benue referees who officiated the match. I am highly satisfied with their performance.
“Although this is his first year in the premier division, the centre referee, Damian Akure did very well. His two assistants were equally good.
“They provided a level playing field for the two teams. Clubs complain that they were robbed by referees but in this case we ‘robbed’ the referees because we did not make use of the level playing field they provided,” he said.
On the loss to Rivers United, Bosso said it is a normal thing in sport as he maintained that no team can win all the time.
“Our defeat is not a new thing. It happens in football so I am used to it. You win some, draw and lose some. That is the way it goes,” he said.
