The Federal Government has earmarked N60 billion for funds transfer in its Social Safety Net Programme.
Mr Peter Papka, National Co-ordinator, National Social Safety Net Co-ordinating Office (NASSCO) stated this during the Social Protection Cross-Learning Summit, in Abuja.
“Government has appropriated N60 billion for funds transfer this year alone while the World Bank is bringing additional funds for the funds transfer. The basic thrust of the programme is to pull-out as many people that are poor out of poverty and to give them a means of livelihood,” Papka said.
He said the criteria to access the fund is to be registered in the Social Single Register in your community and that the registration is ongoing in seven states of Osun, Oyo, Bauchi, Niger, Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti currently,adding that the programme will cover the entire country with time.
“By May this year people should benefit from the scheme in these states but this is budget dependant,” Papka said.
