A former Nigerian junior international and US Monastir of Tunisia captain, Moses Orkuma, has sent an emotional apology to the teeming fans of the club over the recent mishap in the prestigious CAF Champions League.
After a slim 1-0 home win over MC Algers of Algeria in the first leg of the second preliminary round, US Monastir lost 0-2 in the ill-tempered return leg last Saturday to exit the Champions League on 2-1 aggregate.
US Monastir were left fuming over what they referred to as the home side’s unsporting behaviour on and off the pitch of play.
In a chat with Daily Trust, the former Lobi Stars defensive midfielder expressed dismay over what he and his teammates experienced in the hands of MC Algers’ players and their teeming fans.

Orkuma said they were tear-gassed during the match as the hosts did everything possible to get victory in the tie.
He maintained that even as they did their best to remain in the competition, the intimidation and harassment was unbearable.
The former Al Ahly Benghazi and Etoile du Sahel player, therefore, appealed to the teeming fans of US Monastir to bear the situation with the players as he promised better days ahead.
“My appreciation goes to all great fans of Union Sportive Monastirienne for their amazing support yesterday (Saturday). I have been offline for a while. As soon as I came back, I received only positive messages from you guys.
“I am truly happy for the amazing support. As the leader of the team, I take full responsibility and I want to assure everyone that there will be a lot of celebrations at the end of the season,” said Orkuma.
