Coach Abdallah explains Pillars’ home defeat to Remo Stars

The Technical Adviser of Kano Pillars, Usman Abdallah, has said the ‘Masu gida’ boys suffered their first home loss in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season because their opponents were better prepared.

On Sunday, the former Nigerian champions suffered a shocking 0-2 defeat to last season’s runners up, Remo Stars, at their adopted home, Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

After an emphatic 3-0 win against Ikorodu City in their opening game and a solid point on the road at Bayelsa United, the ‘Sai Masu Gida’ were favourites to clinch a victory in front of their loyal travelling fans.

However, Remo Stars had other plans, as they took advantage of a defensive lapse in the 25th minute when Ismaila Sodiq beat the offside trap to slot home the opener.

Things took a turn for the worse in the 59th minute when Ghanaian import, Kwame Mawuena, doubled Remo Stars’ lead with a composed finish, effectively putting the game out of reach for the home team.

Speaking after the week three fixture, coach Abdallah expressed his disappointment and said Remo Stars had a competitive edge because they had prepared early for the season due to their continental engagement.

It will be recalled that Remo Stars represented Nigeria in the 2024 CAF Champions League but were eliminated in the first preliminary round.

“It’s a painful defeat for us, especially at home. Remo Stars have been well-prepared because of their continental commitments, while we are still building up. But I am confident we will bounce back and aim for maximum points in our upcoming games,” said the former Super Eagles assistant coach.

The ‘Sai Masu Gida will now turn their attention to their next fixture, an away trip to the South-east where they will face Abia Warriors in week four.
