The House of Representatives Committee on Delegated Legislation chaired by Olufemi Richard Bamisile has commenced the process of strengthening subsidiary legislations emanating from government agencies and extra-ministerial departments.
The deputy chairman of the committee, Dominic I. Okafor, who spoke at the inaugural meeting of the committee with chief executives of agencies responsible for carrying out subsidiary legislations in Nigeria, said the committee looked forward to continued collaboration with agencies responsible for delegated legislation in order to build stronger institutions in the country.
Delegated legislation refers to laws and regulations made by agencies or bodies other than the legislature which play crucial roles in effective governance by addressing details and practicalities that primary legislation may overlook.
This, the deputy chairman explained, will promote efficiency, effectiveness, and adherence to legal procedures in the legislative process.

Okafor, who represented the chairman, expressed gratitude for the presence of attendees, adding that the meeting was aimed at discussing important matters related to delegated legislation and laying the foundation for meaningful collaboration and dialogue.
The committee emphasised the importance of adhering to legal provisions and the necessity for transparency and accountability in the delegated legislation process.
The agencies present at the meeting included the National Airspace Management Agency, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Nigeria College of Aviation Technology Zaria, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, and the Pharmacist Registration Council of Nigeria.
