Sixteen suspected burglars ages between 11and 30 years old have been nabbed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ,NSCDC in Sokoto.
They were alleged to have broken into some shops at the Sokoto Central Market.
NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr. Babangida Abdullahi disclosed that the suspects were arrested Thursday night while breaking into some shops at the market.
He disclosed that guinea brocade materials and bundles of chewing sticks were recovered from them.
Abdullahi stated:” The suspects were using locally made tools to cut the locks of the affected shops and get access to into them.”
He observed that the senior suspects were training the teenagers among them.
The commandant said the suspects would soon be charged to court and that the underage among them would be taken to Juvenile Court.
He noted that there had been recurring cases of burglary in the market in the past few months.
Commenting, Director-General of the market, Alhaji Abdullahi Bafarawa, disclosed that the market authority in partnership with over 100 market traders’ association had been intensifying efforts to ensure security and unity at the market.
He acknowledged efforts of NSCDC towards reducing criminal activities in the market.
