Fuel Subsidy: Ex-minister Backs Tinubu, asks Nigerians to be Patient

]Prince Ademola Adegoroye, the immediate past Minister of State for Transportation, has asked Nigerians to exercise patience with the new government of President Bola Tinubu, following the move to remove fuel subsidies.

Adegoroye, who spoke in a statement issued by his media assistant, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, to reporters in Akure, the Ondo state capital, said President Tinubu would take well-considered measures to alleviate the suffering Nigerians are already passing through with the removal of the subsidy.

He noted that the decision of the new government to stop the payment of the subsidy was in the best interest of the Nigerian masses and to avoid the nation from total economic collapse.

“Let Nigerians be assured that this is a government that cares for their welfare and as such, Mr President (Tinubu) will shortly take well-considered measures to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians arising from the no subsidy regime.

“President Bola Tinubu demonstrated his sincerity and forthrightness to move Nigeria forward, to be true to Nigeria when he stated before the general elections that fuel subsidy will go once he becomes President.

“He even went on to say that no matter how long Nigerians demonstrate, subsidy is a cankerworm that has stifled our economy and it only fans the embers of corruption and that retaining it will do us no good.

“What he did by those words even before the elections was that he was coming to work for Nigeria and not to play politics with us. Only Chief Obafemi Awolowo used to demonstrate such honesty and in recent times, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. I recall that he even said that despite those utterances, he will still go on to win the elections,” the former Minister said in the statement.

While urging Nigerians to pray for sincere leaders like the new President, Adegoroye pleaded with Nigerians to support Tinubu to develop the country and mostly grow its economy.

Recall that Tinubu, at his inaugural speech, held at the Eagle Square in Abuja, declared that the era of petrol subsidy is gone, saying that it was no longer sustainable.

The President specifically noted that the subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources and the dwindling economy of the country.
