The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, has vowed that the Nigerian Army (NA) will do everything possible to ensure a stable democracy in Nigeria by dealing decisively with violent groups emanating from various parts of the country.

Gen Yahaya said this while speaking at the opening of a three-day Training and Doctrine Command’s (DRADOC’s) combined training and doctrine seminar for officers and men of the NA with the theme: “Enhancing Training and Operations through Doctrinal Imperatives in a Joint Environment”, and inauguration of projects at the training and doctrine command headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Monday.

Represented by the Director General (DG), Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, Abuja, Maj Gen Kamilu O. Kadiri, the COAS said the training was geared towards repositioning and uplifting the NA for a greater excellence and performance of its duties by enhancing professionalism, readiness and cooperation.

He said, “In history, most of the failed battles recorded are either traceable or ascribed to inadequate, improper or lack of requisite training. The training must be realistic, continuous and evolving to meet the changing nature of war, conflict and domestic realities

Yahaya said the army must also maintain training and retraining of its officers and men to enable them deliver well in the ongoing fight against insurgency and other violent crimes across the country.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander, TRADOC, Maj Gen Stevenson O. Olabanji, said the objective of the seminar was to highlight issues that bordered on training, operations, administration and logistics and how they impacted on the effectiveness of the army, as well as developing the capacity of all personnel towards harnessing their skills and contribution to the operational efficiency of the army.

The facilities inaugurated are the TRADOC Records Office, Finance Commander’s House, Corporal Below Quarters, Nigerian Army Post-Exchange and Officers Mess Squash Court.
