Farmer bags 1 month for concealing stolen yams

An area court in Plateau State sitting in Jos on Monday sentenced a farmer, Habibu Ali, (40), to one month imprisonment for concealing nine tubers of stolen yam.

The presiding judges, Ghazali Adam and Hyacenth Dolnanan, handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to a one-count of concealing stolen items.

The judges, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported by the Vigilante Group of Nigeria attached to Dilimi area in Jos.

Gokwat said the vigilantes, while on patrol on May 5, around Terminus Market, arrested Ali in possession of nine tubers of yam which he said were stolen by one Auwal Suleiman. (NAN)
