Five students of Augustine University, Ilara (AUI), Epe, Lagos State, graduated with first class in various disciplines as the institution graduated 38.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof. Christopher Bode Odetunde, who disclosed this during the convocation ceremony of the institution, said, “Augustine University is graduating 38 students: five with first class, 20 with second class upper, 11 with second class lower and two with third class.”
The professor of aeronautical and astronautical engineering said the institution had equipped the graduating students with the tools necessary to navigate the world and therefore urged them to always leave legacies of strength, adventure, patriotism and candor wherever they found themselves.
He further said, “Nigeria’s educational curriculum/system is an existential threat to her development. I strongly believe that learning takes place when learners are engaged, assumptions are tested and challenged, expectations are shared and dissenting opinions are welcomed.”
He admonished the graduates thus: “Your degrees should not be a mere paper collection, but a pathfinding to innovation and to seeking solutions to problems. You must always ask yourself, ‘How can I make things better? Can I think of a new and more efficient way to approach an already solved problem?’ This is the key to succeeding in life. The most successful people in the world saw a need and met it.”
