4 nabbed as police raid kidnappers’ den in Abuja, recover 4 AK-47 rifles

Four suspected notorious kidnappers have been arrested and four AK-47 rifles recovered following a raid on a kidnappers’ den by the operatives of the FCT police command in Abuja.

The FCT Police Commissioner, Tunji Disu, who disclosed this while parading the four suspected kidnappers at the command in Abuja, on Thursday, said the raid was carried out by officers of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command.

He said the police, acting on intelligence, on Wednesday, trailed and engaged the kidnappers at their hideout at Sauka area of Abuja.

He gave the names of the suspects as Yau Sani, an ex-convict, Nuhu Giwa, Yusuf Hassan and Kabiru Mohammed, alleging that they had been terrorizing residents of the territory.

He said the suspects confessed to been responsible for series of kidnappings of residents in FCT and its environs, adding that one of them confessed to have killed seven people during their operations.

According to him, the gang also confessed to have attacked Dakwa, Dawaki, Aco Estate, located along Airport Road, Abuja, and Dupe village Zuma Rock, Kuchiko village and some villages in Niger and Kaduna states.

He said, “The suspects led police operatives to another hideout in Gauraka forest, Suleja, Niger State, where they dug out four AK-47 rifles, 13 AK-47 magazines, and 162 rounds of 7.6mm live ammunitions.”

CP Disu said the suspects also confessed their plans to attack some government institutions and estates in the FCT, which he said have been proactively prevented by the command. 

He reiterated the command’s commitment to stamping out crime and criminality within the FCT, even as he urged members of the public to report any suspicious or unusual activities to the police command via its emergency lines – 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938 and 07057337653.
