Delta North Senatorial hopeful on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Doris Uboh, has said she was not banking on gender sentiments to clinch the victory in 2019.

Hon. Uboh, a former House of Representatives member, Ika federal constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirmed that her antecedents at the National Assembly (NASS) stand her shoulder to shoulder with the men.

The senatorial aspirant, who spoke on the backdrop of support for women aspirants coming from the Minister of State for Petroleum and Delta APC leader, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said though women in politics had not been accorded the needed support, she does not hide behind gender issues to push her aspirations.

“Well, I think women have not been given enough support and chances in elective positions. The men have really not been fair to us. But one thing is peculiar about me, I don’t count on gender sentiments.

“I think my chances are very brilliant but I’m not taking advantage battle on other aspirants for being a woman. As far as I’m concerned, I’m just preparing as if it is a battle, while acknowledging that it is God who gives power.

“I believe every political aspirant should prove his or her own worth and strength and show that you are equal to the task; as a woman aspirant, prove that you can stand up to the men.

“I believe Nigerian politics have improved significantly. We (women) are beginning to be taken more seriously, both in appointments and in elective positions,” she said exuding uncanny confidence.

Addressing the APC leaders, stakeholders and executives in Aniocha South local government area on Wednesday, Hon. Uboh stressed that she aspires to change the lacklustre representation at the green chamber.
