2 in police net for attempted rape

Two people have been arrested by the police in Benúe State for the attempted rape of one Regina in the North Bank vicinity in the Makurdi metropolis of the state.

 The suspects are also been held for conspiracy and robbing the victim of her phone and money at gunpoint.

 State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Steve Yabanet, on Tuesday, paraded the suspects at the command headquarters in Makurdi.

 Yabanet said, “On 4/05/2024 at about 1030hrs while a complainant, one Regina was waiting for a motorcycle to convey her to her house along University of Agriculture road, North-Bank, Makurdi, one Gabriel Ioryer and Inja Akulega of Asase, North-Bank conspired and pushed her into the bush where they robbed her of her phone and money on gunpoint.

 “The duo also attempted to have carnal knowledge of her and she raised the alarm that led to her rescue.”

 The commissioner added that the suspects have confessed to the crime, noting that one locally made pistol was recovered from them.

 Police rescue 1 kidnap victim, recover car in Anambra

The police in Anambra State have rescued an abducted person and recovered a Toyota Camry in Aguata LGA.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that that officers on Wednesday responded to a report of the abduction of a man in Umuchiana village, Ekwulobia, Aguata LGA, and rescued the victim after the criminals shoved him out of their car in Ndike village in Orumba North LGA following a police case.

He further said that the officers sustained the trail of the abductors who later abandoned their car on Umunze Road in Orumba South LGA and ran into the bush.

He added that, “Operations are ongoing for the possible arrest of the hoodlums.”
