Two gatemen (names withheld) have been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for allegedly stealing diesel from the Kano State Water Board in the Tiga Dam area of Bebeji LGA.

The duo, who are the staff of the state water board, were arrested with two 50-liter jerrycans of diesel while they were attempting to sell it.

The spokesman of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said their men caught the suspects during the act and they were about to sell the diesel when they were arrested.

Confessing the crime to Freedom Radio, one of the suspects said his wife had been sick for a long time and they needed blood which he could not afford and that was the reason he stole the diesel.

He said, “We are working here, but my wife is sick. They need blood and I don’t have the means to afford it. That is why we take from the diesel.

“This is my first and last time, even though people will not believe me. But I regretted my action.” The second suspect said he engaged in the act to help his colleague to cater for the illness of his wife.

“He told me that his wife was sick, so I decided to join him so that we would sell and use the money to take care of his wife,” he said.
