An Edo High Court sitting in Benin, Edo State, has sentenced two internet fraudsters, Osemudiamen Aganjile and Ekoh Godswill, to six years imprisonment each.

Justice Efe Ikponmwonba, however, gave the convicts an option of N200,000 fine each.

The two were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for impersonation and intent to defraud people.

They pleaded guilty to the charges and pleaded for mercy.

The prosecuting counsel, I. K. Agwa, prayed the court to sentence them accordingly while the defence counsel, S. A. Aichienede, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

While sentencing them, Justice Ikponmwonba also held that the convicts were to forfeit their mobile phones and the balance of N3,677,986, found in Aganjile’s UBA and First Bank accounts and the sum of N767,677 in Godswill’s Sterling Bank account, being proceeds of crime to the federal government.
