Former Bauchi South Senator Adamu Ibrahim Gumba has declared his intention to contest for Bauchi State governorship on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the 2019 general elections.
He declared his intention to contest at the party’s secretariat in Bauchi Thursday saying that if elected he will focus on three areas to develop the state.
He said that his focus would be on education,agriculture,and Health promising that he will take the state to greater height and develop its human and natural resources towards real development.
Gumba,who replaced the immediate past Federal Capital Territory,Minister,Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed at the National Assembly, said that he has all what it takes to be the governor of Bauchi State.
He revealed that he had garnered enough experience being a public servant that rose through the ranks until he retired.
According to him, he started his public career as a primary school teacher,and went on to become a permanent secretary in the state level,Deputy Controller-General Customs,Head of Bauchi Civil Service,and Commissioner of Education and later a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Gumba note that he had always been very close to governance adding that, greed,selfishness,self-centeredness and lack of focus has been responsible for the backwardness in the state.
"I was once a Principal Private Secretary to a Governor,Permanent Secretary,Head Of Service,Commissioner,Chairman of government agencies at various times and I know what Iam talking about,and I have the experience and qualification to make Bauchi greater than what it is today.
"As a Governor,I am a servant of the people,I will not be selfish I will not be rude,I will not be arrogant,I will be a leader,not ruler,over and above that,Iam matured We will rebuild Bauchi,above these,I will be the people’s Governor,"he said.
He added that if he becomes the governor, he will give priority to the welfare of youth and women which he said will help rebuild Bauchi state and guarantee the future of its people and preserve their integrity.
The PDP Governorship aspirantappealed to the party to be fair to all aspirants.
He also called on Senators Bala Mohammed and Abdul Ningi who had earlier declared their Governorship intention to play politics without bitterness in the interest of the party and the state.
Responding, Bauchi state PDP chairman, Hamza Ibrahim Akuyam assured that as party leaders, they will treat each other as important adding that the electorates will determine who becomes the candidate and eventually elected as governor on the platform of the party in Bauchi State.
He advised the three aspirants to cooperate and help the party wrestling the state from the clutches of the ruling APC.
"Bauchi electorate have now seen the good,the bad,and the ugly,and I believe they will decide their fate at the polls come 2019".
