The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led federal government to use the occasion of Workers Day to review all its “retrogressive” policies.
The PDP also charged the workers to use “Their resilient spirit to resist all anti-people tendencies that seek to compromise and undermine the democratic tenets of freedom, rule of law, accountability and probity.”
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, in a statement yesterday commended workers for thriving “Despite the asphyxiating and life-discounting conditions occasioned by the ill-implemented economic and fiscal policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
“The PDP particularly condemns the continuing increase in electricity tariff and price of petroleum products with petrol now selling at over N1,000 per litre in various parts of the country; a situation that has resulted in astronomical increase in the cost of living and worsened the economic hardship in the country.
“As the party of the people, the PDP demands that the APC-led federal government ends its insensitivity towards Nigerians and use the occasion of the Workers’ Day to review all its retrogressive policies and take urgent action towards addressing issues that have direct bearing to the welfare of the citizens.”
But the APC in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, said, “The far-reaching transformative economic policies of the administration are intended to expand economic opportunities and benefits for workers and Nigerians in general.”
The APC also implored workers to stand fast and continue to support and collaborate with the APC-led administration as it builds a more virile and prosperous country for present and future generations of Nigerians.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise workers’ welfare and address the challenges facing the country.
Acting National Publicity Secretary of the PRP, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, in a statement on Wednesday said, “On this occasion of Workers’ Day, the PRP urges the Nigerian government to prioritise policies aimed at uplifting workers’ living standards and supporting the less fortunate.
“This entails implementing a living wage policy, enhancing social protection measures, and investing in quality education, healthcare, and infrastructure.”
