Former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has described Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, as the best in Nigeria at the moment.
El-Rufai spoke at a Capacity-Enhancement Workshop for Senior Government Officials of Borno, on Monday.
The event themed: “Enhancing Skills of Government Officials in Policy Implementation and Productive Human Resource Management”, held in Maiduguri, the state capital.
El-Rufai, who described the Nigerian major problem as leadership deficit, commended Zulum’s leadership style in rebuilding and restoring economic hopes in the state.
“I think Prof. Zulum is the best-performing governor we have in the country. I will talk about that later,” he said.
El-Rufai maintained that it felt gratifying seeing the state get cleaned and better despite the decade long Boko Haram insurgency which had killed and cut the entire state from the national grid.
”I like visiting Borno all the time, I don’t come a lot but anytime I come here I feel gratifying of what I see here, when I see Maiduguri in particular getting built up, getting cleaner, more organized and the traffic flow, and you can see the energy returning, economic opportunities are coming back.
“The trauma of Boko Haram, the trauma of killing, of being cut off from the National grid for years and isolated is finally going and this shows the type of quality leadership you have in Borno State. What we have seen here shows you the type of quality leadership that Borno State has,” he said.
Zulum, who declared the workshop open, commended the organizers for choosing El-Rufai as lead presenter.
Represented by his deputy, Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur, he described the lead presented as a man of impeccable credentials, outstanding performance with unparallel records in public service.
