A top contender for the stool of the Emir of Zazzau, Yariman Zazzau, Alhaji Munir Ja’afaru, and other family members on Thursday paid homage to the new emir, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli at his palace in Zaria.
The delegation also comprised of representatives from the Katsinawa dynasty, including relations of the late Emir Shehu Idris and others from the Barebare dynasty.
Others include representatives of Gidan Malamai (family of scholars) and also representatives of the village heads.
The Katsinawa dynasty delegation was led by the Wannan Zazzau, Alhaji Abdulkarim Amin while the Barebare dynasty was led Prince Ja’afaru.
Ja’afaru, while fielding questions from journalists at the palace called on the new emir to continue with the legacy of late Shehu Idris.
“My prayer for the new emir is Allah’s guidance, I hope he will emulate the late Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris because he did his best and there is no doubt about that.
“I hope the new emir will continue from where Dr. Idris stopped,” he said.
This is coming few hours after Alhaji Aminu Yakubu Wambai, who holds the title of Wakilin Raya Kasar Zazzau reportedly resigned his appointment on Wednesday after serving for 19 years in the Zazzau Emirate Council.
He, however, stated in the resignation letter that it was on personal grounds.
Our correspondent reports that the letter, which is in circulation carries a received stamp from the Zazzau Emirate.
Calls and a text message put to Wambai to authenticate his resignation was neither answered nor replied.
According to the letter, however, the resignation of Wambai, who has served as the seventh Wakilin Raya Kasar Zazzau, as well as a permanent member of the Zazzau Emirate Council representing Kaduna North and Kaduna South Local Government Areas of the state takes effect from October 7.
The letter stated: “Following the demise of His Highness, the 18 Emir of Zazzau, Shehu Idris C.F.R., which occurred on the 20 September 2020, may Allah Subahanahu Wata’ala grant him Aljanna Fridausi, amin; I write to express my gratitude to Allah Subhanahu Wata’ata for making me to be appointed to the position, as well as to say my pleasure for enabling me to serve creditably well to the best of my ability and loyalty for the period of 19 years from Friday, 21 June 2001 to date.
“I am beset, humbly conscious of my enthusiasts to convey to you my resolve to resign my appointment as the 7th Wakilin Raya Kasar Zazzau, as well as a Permanent Zazzau Emirate Council member representing Kaduna North and Kaduna South Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, with effect from today 7 October, 2020.”
He assured that his resignation is purely personal and should not be linked to any apprehension or fright, adding that: “It is based on my utmost conviction to step aside from the palace activities, so as to enable me concentrate on the numerous personal duties received since my appointment.
“I thank you very much for the support, understanding and reverence I received since my appointment.”
- Emir Bamalli calls for unity
Meanwhile, the new Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has called for unity in the emirate and promised an inclusive leadership throughout his reign.
Bamalli spoke in his home few hours after his appointment as the 19th emir of Zazzau on Wednesday.
The new emir said he will ensure peace and tranquility among the people in the emirate and carry everyone along for the emirate and its peoples’ development.
He explained that he has close ties with the Katsinawa and Beriberi dynasties adding that, “I have a very cordial relationship with all the houses in Zaria based on respect for each other, which we inherited among us apart from the blood relationship we share”
“My wife is from the Katsinawa house because she is the daughter of late Sarkin Zazzau Shehu Idris.
“My grandparents from my mother’s side were from the Bareberi dynasty.
“Therefore, I don’t see why I will have misunderstandings with any of these houses.
“This is why I’m from both houses because they are the major houses in Zaria emirate,” he said.
According to the emir, his contenders were not wrong to have contested for the throne as it was their rights but stressed that “whoever becomes the emir should be supported by the rest so that the people will not suffer.
“I beg them to come so that we can move Zazzau emirate forward.
“I hope within a short time, we will resolve any difference among us.”
“I am happy that some of the district heads from Katsinawa dynasty and Beriberi dynasty have come to pay homage.
“Everybody should come for us to work together and I will do my best to unite the people of Zazzau,” he said.
