Zamfara workers withdraw from pension scheme

The decision to withdraw from the scheme was taken after the executive meeting of the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) which investigated and found out that the government has not once remitted a single Kobo since the scheme started over three years ago.

Chairman of the publicity committee of the NLC, Mainasara Ruwan Dorawa, who disclosed this to newsmen after the meeting, said a sub-committee has been set up to recover amount so far remitted by the workers for 38 months since the deduction started.

Ruwan Dorawa further explained that after a protracted agitation by workers demanding payment of the 2009 leave grant, the state government has promised to pay before the end of this year. He also said the NLC was able to complete the construction of its secretariat through direct labour at the cost of N7. 2 million obtained through a bank loan.
