Zamfara: ‘Gunmen kill cattle dealer for refusing to buy stolen cows’

Suspected armed bandits invaded Sabon Garin Tabkin Kazai in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State and killed a prominent cattle dealer in the area apparently for his refusal to buy rustled cows, Daily Trust gathered.

Residents told our correspondent that the armed criminals invaded the community and went straight to the cattle dealer, called Alhaji Audu Mai Sayen Shanu, popularly known as Audu na Yar yaye, shot him dead at a close range and fled.

“Alhaji Audu was very popular in eastern Tsafe local government.

“In fact, he might be second to none in terms of cattle buying and selling in the area.

“The armed men had earlier invaded the community and carted away all animals about three times.

“They brought rustled cattle several times and he refused to oblige to their demands to deal in them.

“He told them he had stopped dealing in cattle after he learnt that stolen cows have flooded markets these years.

“When they killed him, they fled without taking a dime from him.

“Most of the residents in the neighborhood didn’t know that he was killed until later because he was the only target,” Daily Trust was told by a source.

The spokesman of the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.

Zamfara is one of the states of the Northwest where cases of banditry and cattle rustling are recorded almost on a daily basis.
