Zamfara gov’t to relocate Gummi flood victims, donates N100m, foodstuff

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has vowed to relocate victims of the recent flood disaster in Gummi local government area of the state from flood prone areas, just as he has donated N100m and foodstuff worth millions of naira to the victims.

The governor made the disclosure when he paid an on-the-spot assessment to the communities ravaged by flooding in the local government.

“On behalf of the Zamfara State Government, I am supporting the affected victims with N100 million. In addition, all affected victims would be allocated with plots away from the flood prone areas so that they can build new houses.”

“I also donated 10,000 bags of foodstuffs including rice, maize, and millet, to be distributed among the flood victims,” the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, quoted him to have said.

Lawal added that he had instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to commence work against future occurrences of such disasters in the local government.

The governor, who expressed deep concern about the damages caused by the flooding, said a team of engineers had already surveyed the areas to find a lasting solution.

He said he was in Gummi local government to condole the families that have lost their loved ones in the disaster.

Daily Trust recalls that several communities in Gummi local government were submerged following heavy rainfalls, thereby destroying dozens of houses and washing away several farmlands.
