Zamfara gets advisory committee on community policing

Zamfara State Police Command has inaugurated community policing advisory committee in eight local government areas of the state, the spokesman of the state Police Command, SP Muhammad Shehu, told Daily Trust.

He listed the local government areas as; Gummi, Kauran Namoda, Zurmi, Birnin Magaji, Bakura, Talata Mafara, Maru and Tsafe, adding that more committees would be inaugurated in the rest of the local government areas.

SP Shehu said that on Thursday, 3rd June, Zamfara State Police commissioner, Usman Nagogo, had launched the Local Government Community Policing Advisory Committee at the Emir’s Palace in Gummi.

“The eight- member committee was inaugurated as part of the strategies of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed A. Adamu, to employ an all-inclusive way in addressing the security challenges in Zamfara State through engagement and consultation with members of the public, an initiative that has worked in Zamfara State,” he said.

In his response, the Emir of Gummi expressed happiness for choosing Gummi to be the first local government where the committee was kick-started.

It would be recalled that Zamfara State was one of the first to inaugurate the state Community Policing Advisory Committee on the 25th March, 2020, by Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle.
