Zakzaky: Shi’ites write EU and ECOWAS over fresh assassination plot

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has alleged fresh plot by the Federal Government to assassinate their leader, Ibrahim Zakzaky.

Zakzaky is being held at the facility of the Department of State Service (DSS) since the December 15 confrontation between members of the sect and the Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State.

In a statement signed by Engr. Abdullahi Muhammad Musa for the Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, the sect stated that security agencies plan to use hoodlums to kill Zakzaky and his wife in the DSS facility.

The Shi’ites also claimed that the security agencies want to set up Zakzaky as working with the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and a political party to embark on massive protests in the country during 2019 elections and to raid some detention centres.

“On 3 January, 2019 the Department of State Service (DSS) has circulated unfounded circular to all Service Chiefs and Inspector General of Police alleging that the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of his Eminence, Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) and  the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in collaboration with a political party, (name not mentioned, but most likely, they meant  PDP) are planning massive violent protests in the country during 2019 elections.

“The letter circulated by the DSS alleged that the followers of Sheikh Zakzaky (H) intend to besiege some major Northern cities and towns like Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the planned attack.

“Copies of the letters and our disclaimer on these allegations were submitted to the Senate President of Nigeria and the Speaker of the House of Representatives,” the statement read.
