Counsel to the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, Femi Falana has said that they are yet to be briefed on whether Zeenat has been moved to a government hospital for treatment as ordered by the court on Monday.
A Kaduna State High Court on Monday ordered the Nigerian Correction Service, Kaduna State to transfer Zeenat Zakzaky to a government hospital following a medical test tendered showing that she tested positive for coronavirus.
Falana who was represented at Tuesday’s sitting by Eddie Inegedu said the team had yet to be briefed on that.
The court however adjourned the trial to March 8 and March 9 for the continuation of hearing following Justice Gideon Kurada’s ruling on an application by the counsel to defendants, Inegedu requesting for time to preview a video brought to court by one of the two prosecution witnesses.
Inegedu told reporters after the trial, presided by Justice Gideon Kurada, that the court had admitted one of the two witnesses brought by the prosecution.
He said the second witness was not admitted because the defense team needed time to preview the documentary evidence—a video—brought by the witness, a former legislator at the Kaduna state house of Assembly.
According to him, Justice Kurada ruled in favour of the defence team and adjourned to March 8 and March 9 to allow the team time to preview the video.
Also, Chris Umar, the state Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice, who led the prosecution said his team had presented one witness and the trial was adjourned to March 8 and March 9 for continuation of hearing.
The Kaduna State Government charged El-Zakzaky and Zeenat with eight counts bordering on alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of the public peace among other charges.
