Odafe Ogbejeje is the Coordinator of Peoples Investment TV Show. In this interview, he explains how he promotes humanitarian work from his residential area in Abuja.
What humanitarian work have you done?
We often go to orphanages where we tend to the children. I organize other youths to clean the streets, fill potholes, and do other sanitation works.
What is your motive for the TV show?
My motive is to create awareness in the society about how people should live selfless lives. It is to awaken in the heart of the people the desire to give back to the society no matter how small.
Tell us what you do on the TV show.
Basically, we train youths on how to be TV presenters, musicians, comedians and artists. There are few of them we have engaged in acting and dancing, and they are doing quite well. We hope to get more sponsorship so that we can do much more than what we are doing.
What challenges do you face?
Our major challenge is that the government has not supported youths enough to be creative. At times when we are doing the street work, it gets hijacked by hoodlums.
What is your next project?
We are working on medical outreach for residents around Nyanya and the police station in Abuja. We are interested in assisting the police because I believe that we should not see only the bad side of our security agents but also the good side.
How do you raise funds for your projects?
We have been raising funds to do humanitarian projects through my small business; wall painting and through donations from lovers of humanity.
The COVID-19 pandemic posed a challenge to most youths. What is your advice to them?
I think this is an opportunity for everybody to show love to society. This is because any man that lives for himself is not ready for any achievement. I call on youths to see this time as an opportunity to unite, and lend helping hands. What makes one a millionaire is not the millions in the account but the millions of people one has impacted on.
What plans do you have to engage more youths?
We are working to train more youths on skills and also to give scholarships to children of the less privileged.
How many people do you engage in your humanitarian work?
We have a team of 10 members and we hope to expand as the scope of our work broadens.
What advice do you have for youths on being self-employed?
Nobody should wait for the government. Don’t wait for a job, create one. The youths should start something good for themselves to make an impact. Like I said, they can create jobs and not wait for the government.
