Hundreds of youths from different parts of Borno State are meeting in Maiduguri to chart a way forward in rebuilding the insurgency-ravaged state. 

Millions of people have been displaced while public infrastructure, private homes and businesses worth billions of naira are said to have been destroyed in the 12-year insurgency. 

Tagged ‘Borno Youths Conference’ with the theme: ‘Building Back Better,’ it was put together by Action Aid Nigeria. 

David Abah of the Action Aid Nigeria said as Borno stabilises after insurgency, youths must take part in the rebuilding processes to have a better future. He said the conference was meant to explore opportunities for the youths to be involved in supporting and improving their communities. 

A participant and student of the university, Laila Abubakar called on state authorities to listen and accurately interpret the demands of the youths in running public affairs. 

“The major problems facing the people now included unreliable public transport, unemployment, bad roads and price increase. As a humanitarian activist, I am willing to contribute in rebuilding our state,” she said. 

Madam Yesmin, from the INGOs, said youths must live in a just society where they can access equitable services. 

An official of the Ministry of Youths and Sport, Hajia Aisha AbdulRahman called on the young people to work together to achieve their aims and avoid all forms of social vices.
