The youth and other stakeholders in Orile-Imo in Obafemi-Owode LGA of Ogun State have expressed strong opposition to the installation of Chief Reuben Sogaolu as the new Olu of Orile-Imo.
They, therefore, demanded the removal of Sogaolu from the throne while pledging to pursue a legal action to challenge what they described as an infringement of the traditional selection process.
Daily Trust reports that controversy began after Governor Dapo Abiodun’s appointment of Sogaolu in July. The discontented stakeholders, representing all the 37 villages in Orile-Imo, convened an emergency meeting to address their grievances.
A communique issued after the meeting, signed by Jimoh Olorunsogo and Chief Lukumon Ogunleye, reiterated the community’s opposition to Sogaolu’s appointment. They argued that the selection process did not follow the established customs and traditions governing the appointment of an olu in Orile-Imo.

The stakeholders labelled Sogaolu as an “impostor” and urged that he should be removed from the throne.
Meanwhile, during his installation, Sogaolu called for unity and collaboration among all factions within the community.
He emphasised the need to put aside conflicts and work together for the progress of Orile-Imo.
He said, “Today’s occasion should naturally end the struggle and competition for the throne. It is now time for us all to come together and work as one family to advance our community.”
