The Afrika Youth Movement (AYM) has sensitized girls and women on best practices during menstruation at Tsamiya community, in Katsina town of Katsina State.
The movement said it held the session in partnership with the Opportunities Hub and the #WeGirlsFoundation who have similar objectives.
The coordinator, northern region of AYM, Mr Ismail Bello, said the event was also to commemorate the 2020 World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
“Young ladies and women within the age bracket of 15 and 35 attended the meeting where Miss Aisha Marafa, Miss Amal Ahmad and Mr Babangida Ruma interacted with them on healthy menstrual practices and gave sanitary kits to them,” he said.
The experts advised the beneficiaries on the use of at least three to four pads a day during menstruation and asked them not to use cloths or tissues which may not be hygienic. The group also held awareness session on rape, where Mr Ruma, a member, urged residents to speak out against rape, especially on the girl-child.
Mr Bello lauded the partners and the community for the support towards success of the programme.
