Youth group bemoans crisis at FCC, sue for peace

The Youth and Media Network of Nigeria (YOMEN) has expressed concerns over purported crisis between the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Dr. Muheeba Dankaka and some commissioners of the commission.

This is contained in a statement Saturday by YOMEN spokesman, Mr. Suleiman Adomu.

He said YOMEN as a youth organization was concerned and also interested in good governance in all the public establishments, including the FCC.

The group said it was worried with the unabated attack by some individuals on the FCC Chairman, which according to its members, had become a distraction on the generality of the commission.

Adomu noted that a group of five member-commissioners, in their recent publications against Dankaka, was worrisome, even when other commissioners were suing for peace in the commission.

“In the recent publication, the leader of the five commissioners called ‘Integrity Group’, had called on President Muhammadu Buhari to restore sanity in the FCC.

“His reason for that call is that the executive chairman runs the commission as a sole administrator without regard to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) in respect of achieving national unity.

“As well as disregarding the Act establishing the commission in carrying out its day-to-day activities,” Adomu said.

He noted that the aggrieved commissiiner had also alleged that some of the contracts at the commission were awarded by the chairman without proper procedures.

“Our findings revealed that all the contracts awarded passed through Ministerial Tenders Board (MTB), which is the appropriate procedure for contract award.

“The allegation of one-sided recruitment of over 20 staff in favour of the commission`s chairman is far from the truth, and there was no recruitment from her constituency as alleged. It is blackmailing,” Adomu said.

He said that the frequent attack on FCC`s chairman, was a distraction, and she should be allowed to concentrate and do her work.
