Science students in secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed their desire to contribute to the field of science and also improve the country’s oil and gas sector. The students were drawn from senior secondary classes said yesterday during a sensitisation programme on career options in the Nigerian oil and gas industry organised by Lonadek Oil and Gas Consultants in Abuja.
A student of Hill Side School, Gwarimpa, Abdulrahman Mustapha, described the initiative as “awesome,” saying it exposed him to different career opportunities in science. Principal consultant, Lonadek, Dr. Ibilola Amao, said the initiative with the theme: ‘Vision 2020: Youth Empowerment and restoration initiative,’ was aimed at reaching young people and catching them young. She said a lot has been achieved in identifying and empowering young scientists in the country overtime, adding that it has been wholly sponsored by them without government’s contribution.
