Yoruba leaders under the umbrella of Pan Yoruba Congress (PYC) on Wednesday converged on Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to demand that the six states in the southwest should adopt a new anthem, saying the body language of the Federal Government shows that it is helpless.
Faulting the flying ban on Zamfara State, the Yoruba leaders also charged all regional security outfits such as Amotekun, OPC, Agbekoya, Vigilante Group, Hunters among others to take charge of security in the region.

The Yoruba leaders, led by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, said the Yoruba nation is worried by the unfolding anarchy affecting the southwest region with the daily occurrences of kidnappings, arson, maiming, destruction of economic facilities and killing.
The group, which include Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), Agbekoya, Vigilante Group, and Hunters, in their communique issued and read by secretary general of Yoruba council of Elders, Dr. Kunle Ajibade, said the Federal Government should see those perpetrating the act as criminals and not bandit.
The communique decried the statement credited to the nation’s Defence Minister, Major General Bashir Magashi, advising Nigerians to defend themselves.
