Yobe youths must stand up and be involved

Youth participation in politics can best be described as one of the ways to recreate value and empower the country with creative ideas.

Youths can do better in politics when their voices are heard in decision-making. The power of the youth to support this drive must not to be underrated and they should be given the chance to get involved.

No country will develop without the participation of its youth in politics and no state or region will see progressive development without the youth playing significant role in politics.

Youth involvement means that they have to join political parties, participate in formulating policies and contest for elective positions in their states.

What is happening now is that some senior politicians are using us to achieve their political goals, and later appoint a few into some less-significant offices. This is not what we deserve.

I want to tell the youths that the onus of our affairs lies in our hands and our fate resides with us. It is pertinent to note that in this era of democracy, everyone has the right to participate in politics irrespective of gender, religion or tribe.

Here in Yobe State, some politicians are mischievously employing idle youths to achieve their selfish goals. This is very unfortunate.

In the light of the above I am suggesting to the youth in the state that we need to let them know our worth by meticulously tabling our grievances before them and trashing out burning issues. We can achieve that by sending brilliant and fine representatives among us to them. It is obvious that if we remain mute, nothing will change in our state.

We should stand up and be involved in the day-to-day running of government  for the improvement  of our society.

Finally, it is time for us to understand what politics entails and participate actively.  We are the backbone of the society, thus we should stand up and be involved.
