Yobe records first COVID-19 case as Nigeria’s total hits 1,728

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed the first COVID-19 case in Yobe state.

The index case in the state was among the 196 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as announced late Wednesday by the Centre.

With the new confirmed cases, the total number of infections in Nigeria stands at 1,728 as of 11:55 p.m. on April 29, according to the NCDC.

The NCDC gave the breakdown of the new cases thus; “87-Lagos; 24-Kano; 18-Gombe; 17-Kaduna; 16-FCT; 10-Katsina; 8-Sokoto; 7-Edo; 6-Borno; 1-Yobe; 1-Ebonyi; and 1-Adamawa”.

It also said that the virus claimed the lives of 11 patients, bringing the total number of deaths to 51.

According to the agency, Nigeria now has 1,370 Active Cases Recorded as at 11;55p.m. on April 29, while 307 infected persons had been treated and discharged, and 51 deaths had been recorded.

NCDC said that as of April 29, COVID-19 confirmed cases had been reported in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
