The police command in Yobe State has confirmed that it arrested 160 suspects within the third quarter of 2020 in its concerted efforts to protect lives and properties in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Damaturu.
According to the statement, the 160 suspects were arrested for various offences, which include culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, housebreaking and theft.
Out of the total suspects, he said 138 have so far been arraigned in the state at various courts for prosecution, 72 were convicted and sentenced to various jail terms in addition to payment of fines.
Twenty seven suspects are standing trial in various courts across the state, 22 have their cases at various stages of investigation and 39 are before the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
He also added that two motor vehicles were among exhibits recovered in the cases bordering on car theft and other related offences.
Other items recovered, according to the statement, were one AK 47 rifle, 16 rounds of live ammunition, one machine gun, two fabricated single barrel short guns and one pistol.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Yahaya Sahabo, assured members of the public of his commitment and determination in the fight against crimes in the state.
Sahabo, therefore, solicited support and cooperation from the public to achieve the designated mandates of the force. (NAN)
