Senate President Ahmad Lawan has reiterated his decision not to appeal the court judgement, which voided his nomination as All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Yobe North in the 2023 election.
A Federal High Court in Yobe had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Bashir Machina as the authentic candidate for the senatorial district.

Lawan had said he had accepted the judgement of the court and had decided not to appeal.
However, an online report had claimed that the Senate President made a U-turn on his earlier decision not to appeal the judgement
Lawan, on Saturday, described the report as utter falsehood and urged the public to disregard it.
“For the umpteenth time, we want to emphasize that the Senate President has no intention to appeal against the court judgement.
“If anybody is dissatisfied and decides to challenge the verdict of the court, it has nothing to do with the Senate President.
“The Senate President has made his own position public and has since moved on. He is a man of his words,” Lawan said in a statement by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi.
