Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State said the with the upcoming local government election in Yobe state, his government will ensure that local government councils function effectively as a unit of governance that is closer to the people.
The governor stated this at the Government House, Damaturu, while presenting flags to the 17 APC local government chairmanship candidates that will contest in the local government election slated for 27 February.
“We want to end a situation whereby largely local governments are deserted. We will hand to local government chairmen the trust to run the affairs of their councils. If local government are empowered to operate freely and function the pressure on the state government will be reduced,” Governor Buni said.
He also said Yobe government will support local governments so that they can keep the wheel of governance moving at the local government council level.
The governor also charged the 17 local government councils chairmanship election candidates of APC to unite the people and work for the people to ensure that, at the grassroots level governance is moving on effectively.
